Bengaluru: The Karnataka government is planning to impart skill training to children by introducing the ‘Skill at School’ programme in the next academic year.
School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said, “We are planning to improve the skills among children from an early age according to their interests. This will be part of the school education and will be announced in the upcoming budget.”
According to sources, skills planned to be introduced at department level are communication skills, problem-solving, entrepreneurship skills, digital skills, etc. The minister said the government will provide internet facilities to all government schools and it will be a part of skill programme. Interestingly, this is one of the features in National Education Policy (NEP), rejected by Congress-led government.
The NEP recommends integrating vocational education in school curriculum with a range of practical skills. As mentioned in NEP, moving beyond traditional academic knowledge to equip students with necessary competitive skills for job market. The skills listed by NEP are communication skills, digital literacy etc.
