The development works taken up on the premises of Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School at Sokke is moving at a snail's pace.
The works, including a residential building, was taken up at a cost of Rs 3.54 crore. However, due to the negligence of contractors and officials, the works have remained incomplete. As a result, the students and teachers have been deprived of facilities.
The work on the residential complex, compound, road connecting T H Road to the residential school and sports courts began in September 2016. The contractor had promised to complete the works by August 2017.
Manjappa, a parent, said, "The school is situated on the outskirts of the village. It is surrounded by acres of Gomala land with shrubs all over. Leopards were also spotted in the neighbouring villages of Narasipura, Rangapura and Shanubhoganahalli. Without a compound, there are possibilities of wild animals, including leopards, entering the residential school premises. Keeping in mind the safety of the children, the compound should be constructed immediately."
In spite of land being available, the sports ground has not been constructed. The courts for kho-kho, ball badminton, basketball, kabbaddi, throwball and volleyball are yet to be constructed, which has severely affected the sports activities, a student said.
The work on the construction of quarters for the staff has also remained incomplete.
Parents have urged the authorities concerned to complete the work on the building at the earliest.
