Special arrangements were made for the said separate elections as well. Special police forces were brought in from Tamilnadu and Kerala along with Reserve police, Anti Naxal Forces, Civil police and Home Guards. With security beefed up, electorate were seen rushing to polling booths to exercise their franchise. When District Superintendent of Police Pravin Madhukar himself was supervising the security of the hyper sensitive booths from morning till dusk, the policemen were also seen in high spirits. Anti Naxal Force led by Assistant Commander Nayak held combing operations from Wednesday morning in certain regions of western ghats where naxal activities are suspected.

Though instances of minor altercations were reported, the police had settled the matter by intervening on time. Thus the election for 752 seats in the taluk were held peacefully till Wednesday evening.

The ballot boxes have been kept safely at Bhandarkar’s college. The counting will be held on May 17, informed Taluk Election Officer Ramesh K N.
