For Shashidharan, who tried to smuggle gold from Dubai by swallowing the pellets, Saturday turned out to be painful as the lone gold pellet continued to remain in the stomach .

Speaking to Deccan Herald, KMC Medical Superintendent Dr Madhusudhan Upadhyaya said Shashidharan had not yet passed the pellet in spite of the doctors giving him food loaded with fibre content. The police and customs officials too have to wait for Shashidharan to empty his bowels.

The doctors had successfully removed 29 of 30 gold pellets he had swallowed on Friday. They had used Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy after their attempts to ‘retrieve gold through colonoscopy and enema on Thursday. The value of the recovered gold from Shashidharan’s stomach is approximately Rs 13 lakh.

According to sources in the Customs department, Shashidharan was able to get past airport security as metal detectors in India are not capable of detecting metal inside human bodies. Meanwhile, the cost of his treatment stands at Rs 30,000. The entire expense will be borne by Shashidharan.
