Bengaluru: Following the delayed start of the ongoing Social and Educational survey in Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits and lukewarm response in a couple of districts, the state government decided on Tuesday to extend the exercise till October 18.

Addressing reporters during a news conference, Siddaramaiah explained that the survey was uneven across the state (97% in Koppal while 63% in Dakshina Kannada).“MLC Puttanna and the teachers’ association requested an extension of 10 extra days. Accordingly, we have declared holidays for government and aided schools till October 18. Holidays have been announced for 8 working days,” he said.

The survey across the state (except GBA) began on September 22 and was scheduled to end on October 07. The survey began on October 04 in GBA limits.According to data from the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes,  there are 7.65 lakh households in Bengaluru Urban, which includes GBA limits.

In this, 2.78 lakh households were completed in Bengaluru by Tuesday afternoon.“In Bengaluru, we have directed them to end the exercise by Naraka Chaturdashi (October 20). Teachers have also given confidence on finishing by then.”Explaining that three teachers had died during the survey, the chief minister said their families would get a compensation of Rs 20 lakh each.Siddaramaiah also explained that action will be taken against those who do not participate in the survey.


Koppal sees highest enumeration, Bengaluru Urban lowest

After 16 days, Koppal district saw the highest enumeration at 97% (3.15 lakh out of 3.26 lakh households). It was followed by Haveri at 97% (4.04 lakh out of 4.18 lakh households) and Chamarajanagar at 95% (2.44 lakh out of 2.56 lakh households).Bengaluru Rural at 66% (2.53 lakh out of 3.83 lakh households), Dakshina Kannada at 63% (3.81 lakh out of 6.02 lakh households), Udupi at 60% (2.17 lakh out of 3.62 lakh households) and Bengaluru Urban at 36% (2.78 lakh out of 7.65 lakh households) lagged behind.

“The survey began late in GBA limits. Since there were works of the election commission and preparatory things, it got delayed. Thus, the enumeration numbers are less in the GBA limits,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said.
