The mortal remains of Satish, a soldier killed in the attack on Central Reserve Police Force camp in Sringar, Jammu and Kashmir will be brought to Alambadi, his village, on Friday.
The body is expected to reach Mandya by 3 am. The funeral procession will begin at 7 am from Visvevaraya statue and reach Alambadi through Pandavapura and KR Pet, Superintendent of Police Bhushan Bhurase said.
Villagers pay tribute
An eerie silence has descended on the nondescript village ever since the news of Satish’s sacrifice broke out. Residents were seen consoling his parents. Photographs of Satish adorned the village with villagers paying their tribute to the soldier.
Lakshmamma, the grandmother of Satish, said the family was against him joining the Army since his brother was already in the armed forces.
“He joined the Army despite our pleas not to do so. He would have been alive had he heeded our words,” a tearful Lakshmamma said.
As many as 14 youths from Alambadi and Hosamavinakere, a neighbouring village are serving the nation by joining the armed forces, Manjunath, who serves as a soldier in Punjab said.
CM condoles
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has expressed profound grief over the death of CRPF soldier N Satish. The chief minister has announced a compensation of Rs five lakh to the family of Satish, according to a statement issued by the CM’s secretariat.
