The ITC and the Chikkamagaluru City Municipality have signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday for the management of solid waste generated in town.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sathyavathi said that the ITC has entered into an agreement with the CMC on management of solid waste management for a period of three years, under its well-being out of waste (WOW) programme. The programme will be implemented on a pilot basis in the town, she said.

In the past, SHGs were entrusted with collecting the garbage generated. Now, the responsibility has been entrusted to the ITC. They will utilise their CSR funds for collecting and transporting all waste from the city. It will not be a burden on the CMC, she explained.
