Some think temple visits wash away sins: Gowda

Some politicians are under the impression that mere temple visits and generous handing out of donations would absolve them of their wrongdoings, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said.

There are politicians who have failed to perform when they were given an opportunity, but only when they lose everything, do they realise their misgivings have come to haunt them, the chief minister said while addressing a gathering after felicitating former parliamentarian G Madegowda at a programme.

“Some think their sins will be washed away if they pay endless visits to temples and make donations,” he said.

Gowda said that unlike politicians of yesteryear, present-day politicians had taken both God and the people for granted.

Politicians in the past were both God-fearing and people-fearing and took their responsibilities seriously, the chief minister said. “Today, there is no such conscientiousness,” he said.

“Anybody could be felicitated today. There are instances where people have sponsored their own felicitations. In such times, a person like Madegowda being honoured is refreshing,” Gowda said.
