The bad state of roads in rural areas in Somwarpet taluk has been causing great inconvenience to residents.
The roads in Kiragandoor, Tholoorshettalli, Shanthalli, Bettadalli, Nerugalale, Gowdalli Chowdlu gram panchayats are crying for attention.
The surface of roads have been chipped off and authorities have failed to repair the road. Alleging poor quality of road work, residents had staged a protest in several villages.
Somwarpet is a tourist spot and a large number of visitors visit waterfalls during monsoon. The roads leading to various tourist destinations in the taluk have been battered badly due to various reasons. The irony is that the tourists who visit the spots, have been using them with pain. The road leading to Mallalli waterfalls turn into mini field during monsoon. The roads in Takeri, Biligeri have not seen asphaltation for the last several years. The region is known for historical Ishwara, Parvathi and Gange temples.
However, there are no proper roads to these temples. The roads have developed huge potholes at Kumbaragadige, Jakkanalli, Kumaralli. Without proper bus facilities to these villages, the residents have to struggle to get a vehicle in case of emergency. Taluk Coffee Growers Association president Mohan Bopanna said “the roads have developed potholes for the last several years. None of the authorities have come forward to repair it.”
Aigooru Gram Panchayat member K P Dinesh said “the road cause inconvenience to the travellers. At several places schoolchildren are forced to walk for three to four km stretch to reach the school.”
