Shivamogga: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan stated that the Centre has provided the necessary support to establish a state-of-the-art and well-equipped sound recording unit at the proposed FM radio station in Shivamogga, complementing the existing organised radio station in Bhadravathi.

He participated in the installation and puja ceremony of a high-frequency transmitter imported from Canada, at the Doordarshan relay centre near MRS in the City, on Thursday. The high-frequency transmitter is intended for the launch of FM radio.

Addressing a simple gathering later, Murugan emphasised that all radio stations in the country are being developed to meet public expectations.

Support will be provided to develop the FM radio station as per the request of MP B Y Raghavendra.

MP B Y Raghavendra said the Bhadravathi station currently has a one-kW transmitter. The new broadcasting centre in the City will feature a 10 kW transmitter from Canada, equipped with advanced technology at a cost of Rs 10 crore, allowing radio access within a 100 km radius without data cables, and enabling FM programmes to be heard on mobile phones.

"The launch of FM in Shivamogga during Bhadravathi Radio's diamond jubilee is a positive sign," he said.

He added that radio not only serves as a news medium but also as an entertainment platform that connects with people, he added.

Shivamogga City MLA S N Channabasappa, MLA Araga Jnanendra, MLCs Dhananjay Sarji, D S Arun, former MLA KB Ashok Nayak, All India Radio divisional head Sanjeev, Deputy Director Raghu, programme co-ordinator Subray Bhat along with All India Radio officials and dignitaries, were present.
