The day-long special session of the state legislature convened on September 14 to ratify the GST constitutional amendment bill has been cancelled.

A decision in this regard was taken at the state Cabinet meeting in Bengaluru on Saturday. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Law Minister T B Jayachandra pointed out that the GST bill has now become law as 18 states have already ratified it. Any constitutional amendment bill after being passed by Parliament has to be ratified by at least 16 states.

“There is no provision or requirement to ratify legislation which has already become a law. We will write to the Governor to complete the formality of cancelling the special session,” Jayachandra said.
