A special committee has been set up to look into execution of the long-pending Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project proposed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

The committee will discuss issues such as compensation to farmers, project planning, etc, said Bengaluru Development Minister K J George on Monday.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting held with farmers whose land has been acquired for the project, George said that the state government and the BDA were committed to building the PRR. To implement the project effectively, a committee headed by Chief Secretary Arvind Jadhav has been set up, he said.

The minister said the commissioner and secretary of the BDA, Chief Secretary (Urban Development), BDA deputy commissioner (Land Acquisition) and Principal Secretary to Finance, Law and Revenue department will be the members of the committee.

George said that the committee will be asked to submit the report within 21 days.

The farmers, who met the minister, decided to drop the protest they had planned on May 17. “It has been 12 years since the project was announced and till date, nothing has been done. We will wait for a few days and if nothing is done as per the assurances made by the minister, we will go ahead with the protest,” said Kiran, a member of PRR Horata Samiti. George said that the list of allottees of sites in the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout would be ready by June 15.
