The evaluation process this year was not a smooth sail for the officials in Raichur district as there was a controversy over the evaluators chosen for evaluation.

Officials here had to face the wrath of parents after they came to know that the evaluators appointed were not qualified to evaluate the papers.

At one of the evaluation centres, there were complaints that English medium papers were being evaluated by the Kannada medium teachers which gave rise to doubts over the quality of assessment.

The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board was forced to conduct a review, following this.

S R Umashankar, principal secretary, Department of Primary and Secondary Education, said that 550 answerscripts that were already evaluated had to be called back due to this reason. "We had these scripts re-evaluated at the KSEEB by English medium teachers and the revised results are considered," he added.

Meanwhile, sources in the department said that several anonymous complaints were received from various parts of the state pertaining to dissatisfactory evaluation.

"This is the first time that we took the process online. Parents have expressed apprehensions regarding this. We have also received complaints that teachers were not trained adequately to use the software. Teachers themselves have confessed to us about being caught in a fix," said the official.
