Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have arrested six teachers and two minor students for their alleged role in the leak and sale of SSLC preparatory exam question papers.
The arrested persons are Girish V D, a headmaster from Tumakuru; Amjad Khan, an assistant teacher from Ramanagar; headmistress Shahida Begum, assistant teacher Fahmida, and teachers Mohammed Sirajuddin and K Farzana Begum, all from Kalaburagi.
Investigations by the North CEN police revealed “shocking” details about the leak: students openly advertised the question papers on social media and sold them through private messages for Rs 200 to Rs 500, a senior police officer said.
In a police complaint, the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) stated that around 9 pm on January 6, it received information about a social media account named Delta_hacker_32 sharing screenshots of the leaked question papers.
The posts were shared on Instagram, Telegram and other social media platforms.
Many social media accounts claimed possession of the question papers, asking interested students to contact the sellers through private messages, after which the papers were shared in exchange for money.
The leaked question papers were allegedly downloaded using teachers’ login credentials, raising serious concerns about the involvement of educators in the racket.
While Delta_hacker_32 was allegedly created by the minor students, who later shared the question papers on social media with their friends, teachers had no intention to make money by leaking it and had only shared it with some students, who are their close relatives, a senior police officer said.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and took steps to block and deactivate the social media accounts concerned, including Delta_hacker_32. Police have taken all suspects into custody to trace the complete network involved in the leak and establish the exact role played by each person.
