Revenue Minister Sreenivas Prasad told the Legislative Council Wednesday that the State government would take back land given to private and public institutions if land was not being utilised for the purpose it was allotted.

Replying to a question by Mudeer Ahmed Aga (JDS), the minister said that the department was inquiring into the allotment of land to institutions, religious or otherwise. “If, during our inquiry, we find that the land has not been used for the specific purpose for it which it was sought for, we shall take back the land.”

Congress MLC V S Ugrappa sought to know whether the department was also conducting an inquiry into 76 acres of land in Doddaballpur allotted to the Rashtrothana Parishat for constructing a goshala. The minister answered in the affirmative.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council, Puttanna made a preliminary submission on a breach of privilege motion against the Finance Department and Education Department officials. Raising the issue  Puttanna said the officers had breached his and the House privilege by misleading them with orders on grant-in-aid. Chairman D H Shankarmurthy reserved his ruling.
