Mysuru: Kreeda Bharati, a sports organisation, is hosting a state-level sports conference, to celebrate it as a ‘sports world festival’ at Chamundi Vihar Stadium at Nazarbad in Mysuru on January 19, Sunday.
Regional convenor of Kreeda Bharati Chandrashekar Jagirdar said, the conference is being held across Bharat with the motto ‘Character through sports and nation building through character.
Jagirdar said, there is a need to develop a sports culture in the society. “Sports should become a habit naturally. People of all age groups, including children to senior citizens, should gather at a place everyday to play games. In this direction, the conference aims to bring all sports organisations, sportspersons and sports lovers on a platform, to inspire all. The objective is to create a healthy society through sports”.
Kreeda Bharati south zone vice-president Y S Lakshmish said, a state-level organisaing committee has been formed with Mohan Alwa of Moodbidri-based Alwa’s Education Foundation as honorary president. Mahaveer Jain is working president, Amrut Purohit is vice-president, Ashok Shintre Belagavi is general secretary, Rudramurthy is convenor, Bhojaraj Kalladka is organising secretary, Lakshmish is welcome committee president, and Kaveesh Gowda and D Srihari are vice-presidents.
Zonal secretary Mahendra Prasad said, the conference will include a procession, athletics, volleyball, kho-kho, basketball, hockey, lagori, tug of war, march-fast, school band and other competitions for children.
Maggada Mane Prashanth said, “As a prelude to the conference, the sports torch of the event will be launched on January 12, Sunday. The torch will tour schools, colleges and sports centres across Mysuru district for a week, to create awareness on the importance of sports and health. Sports activities will be held in various parts of Mysuru district during the sports week”.
Vice-president of the organising committee Amrut Purohit said, dignitaries like MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will take part in a lagori game in front of Sri Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple around 8.30 am on January 4 to signify the importance of desi sports.
Similarly various sports events will be held in all districts of Karnataka to inspire and encourage sportspersosn to take part in the state-level sports conference.
