He said district level committees have been set up and students, NGOs, heads of mutts have been roped in to participate in the abhiyan.

Ashisar said the first meeting of the newly constituted State Board for Wildlife with the chief minister as its chairman will be held next week.

The Board set up under section 6 (1) of the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act 2002 will advice the government on formulating policy for protection and conservation of wildlife in the State, he said.

Ashisar is the vice-chairperson of the Board and members include elected representatives, eminent conservationists, ecologists, NGO representatives and heads of various departments.

He said the task force will soon submit “Panchasutra” policy for eco-tourism in the State. Utmost care need to be taken to conserve and enhance bio-diversity and natural landscape in all potential eco-tourism centres. Local people including the forest dwelling community need to be actively involved in all levels of eco-tourism projects, he added.
