Karnataka on Wednesday sought permission from the Centre to construct balancing reservoirs at Mekedatu on River Cauvery.

Karnataka Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar met Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari and requested that if the project comes up, it would help in storing excess water from the Cauvery.

The project would not obstruct Tamil Nadu getting its share of water from the Cauvery, Shivakumar said.
