Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha President Patil Puttappa has said that the demand for separate statehood for North Karnataka is getting louder as injustice has been meted out to the region because the elected representatives of the region have remained tight-lipped in both the Houses of Legislature.
He told media persons in Dharwad that the legislators and the government should redress the problems of the region and ensure that it is a win-win situation for the people and to the United Karnataka.
Puttappa said 100 MLAs represent North Karnataka in the Legislative Assembly and another 100 in Legislative Council. Even after having such a huge strength, the politicians who get elected from here have forgotten their prime duty of the development of the region. "They lack responsibility of representing their constituency and the fight for its development. Hence even after several decades, North Karnataka has remained a backward region," he regretted.
If the MLAs of North Karnataka stay united and pitch their voice, they can bend the government and make it focus on this region, but such a collective effort is lacking, he said.
Puttappa said that he is ready to vouch for development of North Karnataka and will soon hold a meeting of all the MLAs.
He said he will write letters to every MLA of North Karnataka asking them to attend a meeting at Vidyavardhaka Sangha in a month's time and Chief Minister Kumaraswamy will also be invited for this meeting which will focus on the comprehensive development of North Karnataka.
