Residents of the fourth block in Nehru Extension in Kushalnagar town have opposed the installation of a mobile phone tower by a private company.
The public said that the mobile tower in a residential area would have a negative impact on the lives of people.
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, resident Roopa Vinod said that the mobile phone tower is being built by a private company, in violation of the rules. The local residents have opposed the installation of the tower.
“Land should not have been provided by a Town Panchayat member of the ward, to the private company in the first place. When the local residents have questioned the company, the elected representative has harassed the people,” she said.
Resident M T Ganapathy said that the radiations emitting from the tower can cause serious health issues among pregnant women and children. The radiations are also detrimental to the lives of birds.
A memorandum has been submitted to the deputy commissioner to initiate measures towards stopping the work on the mobile phone tower.
Resident Balraj alleged that some influential people have been encouraging the installation of the tower, despite opposition by the residents.
Officials concerned should take immediate steps to shift the tower from the proposed location. Or else legal measures would be inevitable, he added.
Residents Vinod Kumar, Devdas, Kusuma and Radhakrishna Shetty were present.
