India has a chance to catch up, and even do better than the developed nations. "This is both an opportunity and a challenge... unless we are globally competitive we shall perish," he said.

Addressing students of Aurbindo Junior college and Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College here, Murthy underlined the role to be played by youth in shaping the country's future and inculcating a value system in life to enable them to translate vision into action.

He said aspiration is the most important fuel for progress which would pave the way towards a better civilisation and to help in reshaping the quality of life of people.

Murthy said there are a number of avenues available for every person to contribute his or her might to the development of the nation and it's not merely through political activities.
