The taluk has two Morarji schools and one each Kittur Rani Chennamma and Kasturi Ba residential schools. The schools reopened after summer vacation on May 27. All the schools have been facing acute shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The State government proposed to regularise the services of teaching and non-teaching staff whose services were outsourced to the institutions.
However, the task cannot be accomplished due to “technical glitches.” The staff, serving for over five years for a pittance are now refusing to join duty. There are allegations that the agencies which outsourced staff to residential schools cheated personnel by paying half the promised salary. The government had issued notification for fresh appointments to these posts. The outsources staff now face the threat of losing their jobs.
“I got married on the hope that my service would be regularised. I have two children and parents. The salary is insufficient to meet education and medical expenses of the family. With the crossing of maximum age limit for appointments, more than 8,000 families will come to streets across the State,” said Munikrishna, an outsourced employee.
Morarji schools are located in Kolar Gold Fields and Kamasamudra while Kittur Rani Chennamma school is situated in Bangarpet. A total of 54 teaching and non-teaching staff were serving at the institution.
It requires at least five months for the completion of the recruitment process.
Question thus hangs on the fate of students till such time.
New teachers lack experience in teaching. “It would have been better if the services of outsourced teachers were regularised,”
said Town Municipal Council standing committee president K M Narayanaswamy on the occasion.
Taluk Social Welfare officer Anand said regularisation of services was a matter to be decided by the government.
