The students of Hassan Veterinary College launched an indefinite stir against the government’s decision to set up new veterinary colleges across the state.
Hundreds of students, who gathered on the college premises, claimed that the new colleges will produce more veterinarians, giving rise to unemployment.
Raising slogans against the state government, the protesters explained that 240 students pass out from four veterinary colleges in the state every year.
The new colleges proposed by the government in Gadag, Athani, Sira, Koppal and Puttur will the government exchequer on providing facilities to the colleges and recruiting the teaching and non-teaching staff.
Strengthen existing colleges
Instead of opening new colleges, the government should concentrate on strengthening the existing colleges in Bengaluru, Bidar, Shivamogga and Hassan. The vacant posts in the colleges should also be filled, they demanded.
