Kukanur (Koppal district): The Kukanur police station Sub-inspector, Gururaj, T has been suspended pending inquiry for 'assaulting' a complainant, inside the police station on Monday.

The complainant, Galeppa Hiremani of Yelamageri in Koppal taluk, visited the Kukanur police station on Monday afternoon to lodge a complaint in connection with a family dispute. The SI allegedly assaulted the complainant when the latter tried to intervene and resolve a family dispute. 

The members of Dalit organisations staged a protest in front of the Kukanur police station demanding the suspension of the officer in question. The protesters relented on late Tuesday evening after Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi discussed the issue with IGP (Ballari) Vartika Katiyar and issued an order suspending SI Gururaj.
