Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister for Higher Education Dr M C Sudhakar on Monday informed the Legislative Council that the state government was contemplating distributing liabilities to universities that were separated from their parent varsity.

Responding to BJP MLC S V Sankanur, who entreated the government to rescue public universities, Sudhakar said, “The government cannot support these universities indefinitely. While dividing the universities, liabilities were not distributed, which we are now planning to do.”

The minister said that the liabilities ought to have been distributed among the institutions that emerged following the division of the parent university.
