Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) personnel have arrested three more people at the Bajpe police station limits, in connection with the murder of rowdy sheeter and Hindu activist Suhas Shetty on May 1.

With this, the number of arrests in the case have rose to 11.

Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said that the arrested are Azaruddin alias Azar alias Ajju (29) from Kalavaru village, Abdul Khader alias Naufal (24) from Bhatrakere in Bajpe and Naushad alias Vamanjoor Naushad alias Chotte Naushad (39) from Farangipete; presently staying in K R Puram in Hassan.

Of the arrested, there are three theft cases against Azaruddin in Panambur, Surathkal and Mulki police stations. He had furnished details on Shetty's movements to the assailants who had already been arrested by the police.

Abdul had helped the accused in fleeing from the spot in a car after attacking Shetty using lethal weapons.

Naushad is said to have conspired with the other accused and taken part in the murder. He already has six cases registered against him in Surathkal, Bajpe, Moodbidri, Mangaluru North, and Bantwal Rural Police Stations, involving murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy for dacoity, the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner also said that the arrested have been produced before the court which has remanded Azaruddin in judicial custody. Abdul and Naushad have been remanded police custody for seven days.

The investigation is in progress and efforts are on to trace other individuals involved in the case, the Commissioner added.
