Mangaluru: Tension is brewing up in the Dakshina Kannada district after the murder of Suhas Shetty, a known rowdy sheeter and Hindutva activist.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) organising general secretary Milind Parande visited Shetty's house on Friday and said that "Hindu society will dig the grave of jihadi violence."
Addressing the media persons, Parande said; “Shetty was fighting for the protection of Hindu society. The video footage showed Muslim women supporting assailants. Where did the arms come from? Karnataka government is following appeasement policy. His sacrifice has further strengthened the resolve of all activists to work for the protection of Hindutva until their last breath.”
Vijayapura City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal said that those who murder Hindu activists, who are fighting to protect the Hindu religion, should be shot on the spot. “Even when our government was in power, there was no protection for Hindu activists. The weapon Suhas had for self-defense was seized by police. How did the assailants knew that he did not have any weapon for self protection. NIA should probe into the case,” he asserted.
“There is a long pending demand to open a NIA office in Coastal belt. I urge Home Minister to set up NIA office. Banning PFI organization will not achieve anything. They should be targeted and shot on the spot,” he added. Patil also announced a compensation of Rs five lakh to the family of Shetty. MLC CT Ravi condemned the government's inaction following Suhas Shetty’s murder.
“They had posted about the murder a month in advance. Why did the police not act or provide protection ? If we are forced to defend ourselves, we are prepared to do so,” he declared.
He also criticised the absence of state ministers. “Where are the responsible ministers? At the very least, they should have visited the grieving family and expressed their condolences,” Ravi said.
Shivanand S Patil staging drama: Yatnal
MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal said that he will take a decision on the challenge only after the resignation of Minister Shivanand S Patil is accepted. “I will speak only if Patil’s resignation is accepted,” he told reporters on Friday. He alleged that Patil has been staging a drama. “ A resignation letter needs only two lines, but he has put many conditions in it. I have the power and strength to contest anywhere in the state," he said.
