Bengaluru: In a major boost to the renewable energy sector, Suzlon on Wednesday announced its collaboration with the Karnataka government to develop 3000 MW of wind energy and establish a state-of-the-art wind turbine blade manufacturing facility in Vijayapura.

Vijayapura, the home district of Heavy and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil, is in the Kittur Karnataka region of North Karnataka, which has historically remained backward.

“The region has attracted significant projects in the renewable energy and agro-processing sectors, paving the way for economic growth, employment generation.This strategic initiative will bolster India’s standing as a global wind energy hub, while contributing to energy independence and environmental sustainability,” a press release, issued during the three-day Global Investors Meet, Invest Karnataka 2025, said.

Added to this, Wings-Vitera will establish a multi-pulse processing plant in the North Karnataka region, either in Vijayapura or Kalaburgi. With an installed capacity of 800 MT per day, the facility will process key agricultural commodities, including pigeon peas (toor), chickpeas (chana), black matpe (urad), and mungbeans (moong).”

“With these strategic developments, Vijayapura is poised to become a key driver of Karnataka’s industrial and agricultural progress, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sustainability, economic growth and job creation,” the release added.
