Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been invited to visit Sweden to study its waste disposal technology to generate power.

A Swedish delegation, led by its Ambassador to India Harald Sandberg, suggested Siddaramaiah to take up a study tour between August 17 and August 21 of this year.

Siddaramaiah said he is yet to take a decision on accepting the invitation.

The meeting also saw a brief passing remark over export of garbage from Bangalore to Sweden for its power generation purpose.

“Sweeden’s solid waste management (SWM) technology is said to be advanced.

They have invited me to have a look at the technology and actual process used for generating power out of waste, so that it may be replicated in Karnataka,” Siddaramaiah said.

Siddaramaiah and Sandberg also spoke about possible avenues of investment in Karnataka including Swedish automobile major, Scania setting up its bus manufacturing plant in the State.

Scania is also said to be bidding for KSRTC and BMTC requirements.

Presently, Scania is into production of trucks in the State.

Further, Volvo cars manufacture plant is expected to set up in the State.

In return, the State government has invited Sweden to be the partner nation for Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2015.

Karnataka has said Sweden has one of the largest contingent of private companies established in the country with approximately 170 companies operational.

Karnataka is hoping that Swedish furniture industry major IKEA will invest in the State, after having received Centre’s permission to invest Rs 10,500 crore in the country.
