Tahsildar trapped for bribery on retirement day in Afzalpur

A tahsildar who was set to retire on Thursday, was caught by the Lokayukta police while was receiving a bribe of Rs two lakh through his subordinate in Afzalpur of Kalaburagi district.

According to Lokayukta police Superintendent of Police, M B Patil, Gousuddin, the Afzalpur tahsildar, had demanded a bribe of Rs five lakh for mutating the names in the revenue documents.

Lachchappa Sidrama Jamadar had purchased 10 acres 16 guntas of land in Havalaga village of Afzalpur taluk for Rs 17.35 lakh. The tahsildar had demanded the bribe for changing the khata of the said land and had received Rs 1.20 lakh out of the Rs five lakh.

Jamadar had approached the Lokayukta police after the tahsildar demanded him to pay the balance of Rs 3.20 lakh. He was asked to pay the money through Nagesh Kumar, a computer operator at the office.

The Lokayukta police conducted the raid while Nagesh was receiving the balance bribe money, the SP said.
