Kigoma, a province of Tanzania, has allotted 1.20 lakh hectares of fertile land to City Energy and Infrastructure Company of Bagalkot to grow sugar cane and set up a sugar industry.
Addressing a press meet here on Friday, Issa’s Machibya, the Regional Commissioner of Kigoma, said the people of his province were totally dependent on agriculture but had no knowledge of scientific methods in farming.
“We are also confronted with lack of investment. Hence we are providing investment opportunities to entrepreneurs from India. Our government will provide the land required,” he said.
He said a study had been conducted on the working of sugar factories, the condition of sugar cane growers, the financial facilities available etc, and farmers in Kigoma will be suggested to follow the system.
