Chairperson of the committee K Rajeshwari who is also the corporator of the ward- 23, where the mall is located, told Deccan Herald, the corporation authorities had turned a blind eye towards collecting tax from a mall though the trade licence was issued in 2008. A whopping Rs 64 lakh was pending, she further alleged.
When the issue was brought to the notice of revenue officer he passed the buck on the zonal assistant commissioner. When asked, the assistant commissioner sang the same tune passing the buck on revenue officer.
Later, on the instructions of the commissioner, the revenue officer referred it to the deputy commissioner of the corporation. Interestingly, the deputy commissioner referred it to the government noting that- the government has to take a decision. Later, in a miracle of sort, Rs 18 lakh of the total arrears was collected in a single day.
When enquired the mall authorities claimed that they have the receipt and sought time to produce the same. Accordingly they have been given 24 hours time or else the mall will be sealed, she warned.
She didn’t forget to add that the drive against such irregularities has begun from her ward to set an example for others. Corporators and members of the committee M D Parthasarathi, R Shivanna, Mahadevappa, Mahadevamma and R Sunanda Kumar were also present during the inspection.
