Jabbar and his wife were approached by the tusker on Tuesday morning around 8.30 am along with its calf from a nearby coffee plantation and then the jumbo duo went on to damage the shop by pulling out items.

Jabbar and his wife narrowly escaped, while people at a nearby bus stop raised an alarm, causing the elephant and calf to move towards the nearby Maryland Estate.

The elephant also attacked the car belonging to Maryland Estate's owner Leslie Pinto, who was traveling to Madikeri. Despite reversing the car upon seeing the elephant, it pursued and attacked the vehicle.

The elephant eventually moved back to the plantation.

The local residents have demanded permanent measures to drive the elephants back into the forest.

Forest officials conducted a spot inspection.
