Dakshina Kannada may have been the cradle of the banking sector, but cooperative societies in undivided DK district, are forerunners in using technology, SCDCC Bank President M N Rajendra Kumar said on Tuesday.
He was addressing the gathering at the valedictory of district-level 65th All India Cooperative Week organised at SCDCC Bank hall.
He said there was a wrong notion that it is difficult to survive amidst tough competition from commercial banks. “But the expertise of the employees and use of technology, has given the cooperative sector a boost,” he added.
SCDCC Bank is giving tough competition to commercial banks. The bank has the credit of introducing RuPay card ahead of commercial banks. “Commercial banks register growth with the funds from government,” he observed.
Cooperative societies would not face setbacks in DK district due to financial crunch, he said. He discouraged employees from sending the consumers back citing shortage of cash.
“The district credit cooperative bank will assist all cooperative banks at any time,” he assured.
Stating that cooperatives can progress only through the principles of cooperation, he said politics should not enter cooperatives.
DKMUL President Raviraj Hegde, DK and Udupi Cooperative Fish Marketing Federation President Yashpal Suvarna, Campco Vice President Shankaranarayana Khandige also spoke.
Members of various cooperative societies took out a procession from Ramakrishna Credit Cooperative Bank at Bunts’ Hostel to the SCDCC Bank on the occasion.
