Former MP and BJP leader Tejaswini on Wednesday stirred up a controversy by questioning whether it was possible for a woman politician to assume power in Congress, without compromising with one’s honour and self-respect.

She also said the party accommodated only those women politicians who “appeased” their male counterparts.

Speaking on the sidelines of a protest in the city, she said that former legislators such as Rani Satish and Motamma had to protest in front of Sonia Gandhi’s residence, to contest the Assembly elections. However, Umashree could avail tickets to contest the elections and also get a ministerial berth.

“Umashree should disclose how she was given a ministerial berth,” she said.

On Women’s Commission chairperson Manjula Manasa, Tejaswini said that Manjula should be trained to address cases of sexual assault in an unbiased manner. She said that Congress had no ‘sensitivity’ regarding women’s issues.
