Madhugiri (Tumakuru district): A case has been registered against 10 people, including three women, in connection with the case of sending out a Scheduled Caste (SC) youth who had entered the Ramanjaneya temple to offer prayers in Kavanadal village in the taluk recently.
Based on the complaint filed by the youth, a case has been registered against villagers Giriyanna Gowda, Anant, Shivanand, Yogeesh, Shivamma, Ningamma, Manjunatha, Mahantesh, Veeresh and Yashodamma under various sections including Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 191 (2) (rioting), 351 (intimidation), 351 (2)
(breach of peace, intentional insult) and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
‘Dire consequences’
The youth, in a complaint to the police, has alleged that some members of the Vokkaliga community threatened him with dire consequences and sent him out of the temple on May 10.
There was a verbal altercation in front of the temple over this issue, the youth said in the complaint.
A video of the scuffle between the youth the accused had gone viral on social media.
Following this, the police and officials visited the village and held a peace meeting.
They had instructed that no one should be restricted from going to the temple.
