Bengaluru: Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna on Tuesday lashed out at the policemen for lacking "common sense" and blamed them for the violence at Udayagiri police station in Mysuru reported on Tuesday night.

“I don’t understand the mindset of the police,” Rajanna told reporters.

“An RSS man was arrested as per the law. What he did was wrong. But I don’t know if the police have any common sense,” he said.

Rajanna pulled up the police for bringing the accused -- whose social media post upset local Muslims -- to the Udayagiri police station.

“Udayagiri is a 100 per cent Muslim area. Why was (the accused) taken to that police station? Why not some other station? Naturally, people will be enraged. It's not just ministers who run the administration. Bureaucrats should have common sense,” Rajanna said.

“Even an anonymous person on the street will have this common sense. Unfortunately, big people wearing badges don't have that common sense,” he remarked.

Rajanna blamed the local police for the violence.

Meanwhile, Home Minister G Parameshwara said he had instructed the police to act against the stone pelters.

“I've asked for the stone pelters to be arrested. The person, who wrote the social media post, has been arrested already,” he said.

“A social media post incited a community. Some 200 people gathered outside the police station and demanded that the person be handed over to them. The police didn’t oblige. The mob resorted to stone pelting. The police fired teargas. Everything is under control now,” Parameshwara said.
