Mysuru: Tension prevailed in Vajamangala village of Mysuru taluk on Saturday after miscreants have torn one huge and four 10X12 sized flex banners of Dr B R Ambekdar on Friday late night. The miscreants even splashed human excreta on the name board of Siddhartha Yuvakara Sangha, which had photos of Dr B R Ambedkar and Buddha.
Subsequently, over three hundred villagers staged a protest on Saturday. Mysuru district SP N Vishnuvardhana, Mysuru district ASP C Mallik, Mysuru Tahsildar, Megalapura Police Inspector K M Mahesh Kumar visited the spot and pacified people. They have beefed up security measures.
ASP Mallik said that they have done spot mohazar and the FSL team have examined fingerprints of the miscreants. They have taken footage of two or three CCTV cameras at different spots on that road. Megalapura Police have filed an FIR as well. The investigation is on and there is no clue yet about the identity of the culprits.
The situation, however, is under control, he said.
He added that, due to grand Ambedkar Jayanthi celebrations in the village on April 14, the villagers had installed those huge flexes after permission from Gram Panchayat to keep them till the month end.
There was a similar incident where some culprits vandalised the photo of Ambedkar in Sindhuvalli of Mysuru taluk about two months ago.
Hence Vajamangala villagers have urged police to take measures to protect the boards and statues of Ambedkar at all the places. While the district police are planning to install CCTV cameras at various places in the district for crime prevention with local sponsorships or CSR funds, they are planning to install some of those CCTV cameras near Ambedkar name boards as well, ASP Mallik said.
