The jewellery shop named ‘Gold’ was opened by Shaijal and Yunus from Vayanad of Kerala four months back. As per the information available, the jewellery shop staff Sabith had locked the door of the shop and had locked the shutter doors on Thursday at 8 pm. He had handed over the keys to the jewellery shop owner who had stayed in a lodge above the shop, in the same building.
On Friday morning, when the employees of a nearby hotel saw the shutters open, they immediately brought the matter to the notice of the shop owner.
The police suspect that the thieves might have opened the shutter door using a rope or a chain by tying one side of the rope to the shutter and another side to a vehicle. The robbers have stolen more than 2 kgs of silver jewellery which was kept inside the showcase. Seemingly, they have tried to open the locker where the gold was placed safe, but failed in their attempt. The police have informed that they have obtained the sketch of the robbers with the help of CC TV camera footings.
District Police Superintendent Labu Ram, Additional SP Rohini Katoch and others visited the spot on Friday.
With the increasing theft and robbery cases in the region, the police have requested the general public to ensure the safety of the houses and shops by locking them properly.
