Thousands throng Datta Peetha

Thousands of devotees from across the State, wearing the ‘dattamala’  and carrying ‘irumudi’ on their heads, arrived at the Inam Dattatreya Peetha for a ‘darshan’ of the sandals of the deity as part of Datta Jayanti celebrations at the Baba Budangiri Hills (also called Chandradrona Hills) in the district on Thursday.

The ritual drew to a close, the three-day celebrations organised by the Sangh Parivar. There
was a long queue of devotees, stretching upto one km. The devotees sang devotional and patriotic songs, en route the shrine.

District incharge D N Jeevaraj, Bajrang Dal national joint co-ordinator Rajesh Pande, State convenor Suryanarayana and others had worn the ‘dattamala.’ Earlier, a number of religious leaders offered pooja to the sandals of the deity.

The district administration allowed devotees to offer prayers from 8 am to 5 pm. There was a heavy police bandobust on the way to the cave shrine.
