'Three medical colleges to start functioning next year'

 Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil has said that the three medical colleges, sanctioned to Karwar, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar, will start functioning from the next academic year.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Koppal Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) here on Wednesday, the minister said, “Six medical colleges were sanctioned to the State. Of which, three colleges at Koppal, Kalaburagi and Gadag have started functioning from the current academic year. Another three colleges will start functioning from next academic year.”
Patil said, “An additional 450 medical seats are available from the three colleges which started this year.”

   The staff for the new colleges would be recruited in a phased manner. The new government medical college in the city would ensure more specialist doctors in all the departments of the district hospital, the minister added. Students of the KIMS urged the minister to provide gymnasium, stadium, wi-fi facility among others.
