When plans are afoot to install new unit and privatisation of MySugar, state-run sugar factory, the state government has replaced the factory’s Managing Director (MD) M N Ajay Nagabhushan and appointed IAS Officer Thrilok Chandra as the MD, on Saturday.

Even the factory General Manager Boregowda will be replaced as his retirement is due for February. K Kannan is appointed as the GM. MySugar in-charge Chief Administrative Officer R Aishwarya said, Thrilok Chandra is on leave and he is likely to take charge on Monday. As Boregowda will retire, the government has appointed K Kannan for his position.

The factory started crushing cane on August 23, 2018 and crushed 1.30 tonnes of sugarcane and produced 80,000 quintal of sugar, till December 15.

MySugar lockout?

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had said that it is difficult to restore MySugar. The CM also had said that the government has decided to establish a new factory with the latest technology, in Mandya city. The new factory, besides producing sugar, will also produce ethanol to help farmers, the CM had said.

Even 130 employees of the factory have applied for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) and are waiting for completion of the process.

However, the farming community opposed the establishment of the new factory and opined that it is an irresponsible move. Farmers leader K S Nanjundegowda said, “There are several options to restore the existing factory and the CM’s statement is irresponsible. The CM should speak only if the concerned officials have given a detailed report.”
