Several villages in Ranebennur taluk received copious rain on Sunday evening, bringing huge relief for farmers.

Ranebennur taluk has been reeling under drought for the past three years and the rains over the past three days has come as a ray of hope for the people.

Rain coupled with thunder and lightning lashed many parts of the taluk. It rained for about 45 minutes in and around Rattihalli.

Chidanandappa Krishnappa Halegoudara, a 45-year-old farmer, was struck dead by lightning in Gangapura village of the taluk. He was working on his field when lightning struck him.

Virupakshappa (45), a farmer, died when lightning struck him in Arehalli village of Nyamati taluk, Davangere district. He was grazing his cow when the incident occurred. Nyamati received moderate rain on Sunday evening bringing respite from scorching heat.

Heavy rain coupled with gusty winds lashed Byadagi in Haveri district for around 30 minutes. Strong winds brought down a tree on an electricity transformer on Gummanahalli Road in the town. However, there was no loss of life or property.
