When he displayed his skills on Wednesday, some people were aghast while some looked surprised.
The lad who is about to join kindergarten raised many a eyebrows driving the light motor vehicle for more than 15 minutes in the busy 100 ft road here. The boy drove from Lakshmi theatre to the Shanthala theatre junction.
The driver seat of the Omni car is designed to suit the height and requirement of the boy.
“We have adjusted the gear, the clutch, brakes and seat to his height. He can easily drive. Sumukh has been trained for more than a nine months now. He started to learn the driving from the age of three,” Dayanand, trainer, who is also the boy’s maternal uncle told reporters.
According to him, the boy would contest for the Guiness Book of World Records to outdo the previous record set by the nine year old boy from England. That lad currently holds the record of youngest driver in the world. “His record inspired us to teach driving to our kid,” he said. Sumukh is the son of Dayanand and Nagashree couple, residents of Vidyaranyapuram.
Jayashankar, another maternal uncle of the boy said the boy would drive in front of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa at the Kalamandir premises on May 6. “There have been many support for the boy’s endeavour for Guiness records. Suttur seer Shivarthri Deshikendra has also supported,” he claimed. The family had no answer for allowing the small boy to drive in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act and the traffic rules. We have applied for permission from police, they said.
“The boy will never take the car to streets without our supervision. It is only an effort to bag a guiness record. Except for the demonstration, we do not have any other intention,” he said.
