As the tiger had a radio collar on its neck, officials are presuming that the big cat would have come from the Bhadra forest area of Chikkamagaluru district.

Officials said that there are no tigers in the forests of Hassan district but several people had reported sighting of a tiger in the Niralla forests.

Locals and forest department staff had however dismissed it as rumours.

The incident has however, created anxiety among the people of the villages around Adagur and in some parts of Hassan taluk, officials said.

As the carcass was in a highly-decomposed state, officials suspect that it might have died a few days ago. Veterinarians of the Animal Husbandry University in Hassan conducted the post-mortem.

The cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.

DFO Sourav Kumar and his team visited the spot. After a spot inspection and post-mortem, the carcass was cremated as per protocol.
