As many as 37 line transacts have been identified and 37 anti poaching camps have been put up in the reserve forest area. Two volunteers and one forest official will work on each of the line transacts and collect data on tiger population.
The census will be conducted from 6.30 am to 1.30 pm and during the first three days the volunteers will look for signs of existence of tiger like Tiger feces, footprints and marks of nails on the tree barks. Later the volunteers will collect data with regard to the nature of the forest and herbivorous animals in the forest.
With all the details in hand, experts will then relate the ratio and statistics and analyse the same so as to arrive at approximate population of tigers existing in the forest.
Training
A training programme was conducted for the who have come forth to take part in the census at Salim Ali Hall in Muthodi on Thursday. They were told about the topography of the forest, how to behave in the forest and various precautionary measure they need to take in the forest apart from the techniques of collecting data.
