Bengaluru: A tigress, aged about 7 years, was found dead in Lakkavalli range of Bhadra Tiger Reserve by the staffers on Thursday morning.
The carcass of the tigress, with bite marks and injuries, was found by frontline staff. Dr Shivakumar of N R Pura Government Veterinary College conducted the post-mortem and sent the blood and tissue samples for tests.
The department suspected that the tigress was involved in a fight with another tiger some stating that it was a slightly unusual phenomenon.
“Usually, it’s the males who fight for territory. Females fight to save cubs, but they usually don’t risk their life. This has to be studied further,” a source said.
After confirming that no bullet injuries and no remains of metal/bullet were found inside the carcass, the remains were incinerated as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
