Chikkamagaluru: A tigress was found dead in Bhadra Tiger Reserve area in Saave in Lakkavalli forest range on Thursday.

According to forest officials, the deceased animal is believed to be a 7-year-old tigress. The body was discovered by forest staff during a routine patrol.

Officials suspect that the tiger may have died due to injuries sustained in a territorial fight. A post mortem has been conducted.

A metal detector was used to check for metal fragments or bullet wounds in the body. To determine the exact cause of death, tissue samples and blood specimens have been collected and will be sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Assistant Forest Conservator of Lakkavalli sub-division Santosh Sagar, Range Forest Officer Santosh Surimath, Honorary Wildlife Warden G Veeresh, and WildCare Foundation head Madhu Moogutihalli, along with Vinayaka were present.
