A few days ago, a cub had died near Chakahlli and the tigress has been rescued in the same vicinity. Thus, it is likely to be the mother tiger.

The Forest department officials stated that a chip will be implanted on the tigress, and it will be released into a forest, where tigers are rare.

Following the sighting of a tiger, on the land of one Dayananda in the village, a continuous search operation had been conducted over the past one month.

A female tiger and a cub, which had emerged from the Metikuppe forest range of Nagarhole National Park, in HD Kote taluk, were sighted behind Hebballa, Shantipura, and the Stadium Layout in HD Kote town, causing public concern.

Cameras were installed at more than 25 locations, but there was no trace of the tiger on any of the cameras.

Among the two cubs, spotted with the mother tiger, one has died, while the other has been separated.

According to Deputy Conservator of Forests, Mysuru division, thermal drone, elephants and trap cages were used around Chakahalli, under Tiger Block, under HD Kore Range of forests, as there were complaints on killing of cattle and spotting of tigers.

He said, on December 17, a walk-through cage was placed on a private land of KG Hundi village and it was watched up to December 29. On the night of December 29, Sunday, the female tiger has been trapped.

The tigress was subject to medical examination by department veterinarians, as per the directions of the higher officials. As per National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines, the tiger will be released in a suitable wildlife sanctuary, said the DCF.
