Tipu Sultan, who ruled the region for 17 years, with the town as his capital, has developed some Hindu temples by offering valuables and by providing financial assistance. He had donated four silver bowls to Sri Ranganathaswamy temple here, which are still being used for daily puja rituals.
The name of Tipu has been etched on the four vessels, each weighing around half a kilo. 'Sri Krishna' is also etched on it.
Speaking to DH, temple priest Vijayasarathi said, while, three bowls are used for offering theertha, the other bowl has been kept at Daria Daulat (Tipu's museum).
According to sources, Tipu's father Hyder Ali constructed a mantap in front of the temple, measuring 20 ft in height, with 24 pillars. But there are no records to prove this, said temple Executive Officer Dhanalakshmi.
